Moonflower

She goes by the name of Moon Flower, though she was once known as Brenda, before she met Orion and joined the commune.

Back when she was Brenda, she was a silly, giddy debutante, though she left home shortly before her debut, after a horrible fight with her mother. Until Baby Granola came along, she thought her mother was overly protective, a bit of a drama queen over the perils in the world that could affect a naïve girl such as Brenda. Moon Flower now has a better understanding of her mother.

Orion doesn’t quite get it yet, but she hopes he will. He adores Granola and would do anything to see that she was safe. Anything, that is, except give up the commune life, give up playing guitar, and move to the suburbs to raise Granola in a better environment.

Moon Flower loves Orion deeply, but she loves Granola more, and she’s torn now. Should she stay in the commune with her new family or take her child and go back home, back to the life she knew before, back to a life of privilege and plenty? Or is love enough?

Moon Flower and Granola are completely handmade, from my own original design. Moon Flower’s body is made from the classic Rockford red heel socks used for sock monkey dolls. Granola is made from a child’s size knock-off sock, similar in style and color but of a thinner knit. Their hair is made from yarn. Moon Flower also has fake fur around her ankles and wrists - she’s not fond of poofy bracelets now that she has a baby. Her skirt is cotton/poly blend and her blouse is gauze, adorned with pre-made daisy appliques. Her sandals are hand made from tan leather and suede. Her belt is a leather thong adorned with plastic hearts. In her hair is a crown of cloth daisies tied with yellow ribbon. She has on a beaded choker and a string of yellow beads given to her by a friend from the commune. (Beneath her dress, she wears very feminine lacy panties because she hasn’t quite given up everything from her old lifestyle!)

Granola is wearing a felt diaper, held on with safety pins. She’s also wearing only one sock. She hates socks and pulls them off whenever possible.

The bodies are stuffed with polyester fiberfill. Their noses and hand-painted eyes are made from felt. They have sculpted features - mouth, hands and feet. Moon Flower stands 21" from her topknot to her toes, while Granola measures 6 ½“ (she can‘t walk yet but she‘s starting to pull herself up into a standing position).

Moon Flower and Granola come with a diaper bag containing 3 felt diapers and two shirts for Granola. They also have their brightly colored blanket (Granola cries when Moon Flower forgets it), a ball*, some spool-shaped blocks and Granola’s favorite teddy bear.
(*the ball is actually a painted wooden knob, flat on the bottom)
